tuning into groups when leading/consulting

Led a workshop this weekend. I am much more goal oriented and let the how of the meeting/workshop flow into place intuitively. I am amazed how much easier & more effective this is because my intuition knows so much more than my rational mind!

Recommendations to use intuition in groups:

  • Tune into the energy of the group.
Before the meeting, notice what you notice about any sensations or impressions. ex: heavy/light, chaotic/calm/exhausted, bright/dull, warm/cold, cohesive/disjointed, welcoming/resistant, flowing/blocked, charged/drained, dense/loose, etc...
  • Tune into the area of focus & what needs attention.
ex: relaxing, empowering, being authentic, being willing, being a beginner, being a learner, being okay with being unsure, being a master, taking risks, working together, acknowledgement, honesty, creativity, understanding, etc...)
  • Tune into where the energy wants to flow for the highest good or to unblock.
After you notice what is so, notice how the energy wants to move if it were moving most freely. ex: wants to relax so it can be more discerning, wants to come together, wants to focus on a particular person or idea, wants to move up, wants to charge, wants to stand firm, wants to move slowly/quickly, etc.)
  • Tune into the next steps.
The next step may be different than what you expect. For example, before a group can be creative, they might need to be acknowledged, work independently or something else first.
  • Tune yourself, your core, to model the highest energy of the change.
Embody it. So you can model it. If the group needs relaxation, tune yourself to be calmer. If the group needs empowerment, tune yourself to the type of empowerment needed.
  • Plan accordingly and along with goals.
Now engage your reason and discernment, combing this intuitive sense with the wisdom you have about the topic and people, to make a plan. (If the energy wanted to move slowly but you wanted a result now, this intuitive data will help).
  • Show up and stay in tune with goal and how the energy is changing.
Using your intuition, you are in the moment, not just a thought or plan. Be willing to receive impressions and guidance for group in the moment...and follow it. Be in tune with the needs of group, not just your own leadership, desires or fears. I usually intend to the follow the plan and keep a pulse on what is happening, getting 'beeped' with any changes.

When you start by noticing what is so (rather than charge towards change or the goal), you acknowledge and witness the truth of the group. This helps the group relax any tension, for example, convincing you what they are experiencing, which frees energy to be spent more effectively moving towards the goal.

Many effective leaders do this naturally, but we can all strengthen it. As a participant in a group, you can also tune into this group dynamic and vibe and help with the shift.

Example:
Leading a workshop about intuition where the focus of the first day is the intuitive way and how intuition works.

As I tuned to energy of group, the energy was push, strive, grow, stretch, reach...I'm not there.
I noticed that the energy wanted to free up to be more comfortable in the stretch. Not resisting. Relaxing ino the unknown. Accepting that stretching is okay and get comfortable with it. Accepting they are human, and divine and being more authentic about being both and not perfect. It is a highly experienced group that needs to know more about how intuition works at advanced levels.

We started by talking about the balance between human and divine, being spirit embodied, being authentically both not perfect. I tuned into us acting it out physically. We did an exercise with our body; yoga mats representing us and the floor representing the universe around us, then moving to show how we interact and flow between human/divine, us/universe. We used our intuition to help each other refine this interaction so we can move more freely now.

We ended up practicing more than what I had 'planned' and went deeper into how to live with intuition....all because I tuned into the energy of the group along with the goals.

The energy focus Level 2 is about pace, timing. Looking forward to it!
